As a result of operative-searching and undercover investigative activities, in coordination with West Georgia District Prosecutor's Office, Anti-Corruption Agency of State Security Service and General Inspection of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, detained three individuals on the fact of demanding and taking of bribe.
The head of unit at Kutaisi Medical Center of the LEPL „Giorgi Abramishvili Military Hospital“ under the Ministry of Defense of Georgia, has been detained on the fact of bribe-taking.
Investigation determined that the accused, in order to evade compulsory military service, in exchange of GEL 3 000, facilitated the issuance of a medical certificate containing false information for a conscript, on the basis of which the latter would be able to obtain exemption from military obligation.
As part of the investigation, undercover investigative activities carried out on the basis of court orders have resulted in obtaining of audio and video evidence reflecting the above-mentioned criminal activity.
Investigation is being continued under the first part of Article 338 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which as a type of sentence, envisages imprisonment from six to nine years.
Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance calls on public officials and persons, wishing to enter into criminal transactions with them, to refrain from such illegal activities. Response of the Service will be strict in any case.
